It was designed by Charles Klauder and Louis A. Simon, in the Stripped Classical style〔http://www.gsa.gov/portal/ext/html/site/hb/category/25431/actionParameter/exploreByBuilding/buildingId/188〕 in 1939.
On April 28, 1988, it was renamed the "Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building."〔http://www.ssa.gov/history/cohenbldg.html〕
On July 06, 2007, the Social Security Administration Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
